FAQ About
Your Best Birth
Doula Services

My husband isn't sure he wants a doula there; he is concerned about someone taking his
place. Should he be concerned about that?

We get this question a lot! Here are what some former skeptical dads have to say:

"My very skeptical husband informed me that he would meet with a doula but he wasn't so sure about hiring
her. After meeting with a Your Best Birth doula for over an hour and discussing our fears and concerns, I
excused myself. When I came back my husband was writing her a check. Our doula was our life line
throughout the entire process. My husband later said, "Our doula was worth twice what we paid." DB

"When my wife first brought up having a doula at our birth, I thought that it would take away from the
intimacy of our experience. I also viewed doulas as militant about natural birth, and I was afraid a doula
would make my wife or myself feel judged or pressured if we did not do everything according to what she
said was best. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Having a Your Best Birth doula enhanced our
experience of the birth as a couple, and having her there gave me the freedom to pay complete attention to
my wife. Our doula was non-judgemental and helped us to figure out what we wanted by giving us information
and support. Having a doula was the best thing we could have done." CG

A Your Best Birth doula does not replace the woman's partner or other chosen support persons.
Most partners find the presence of a doula to be very helpful as it takes some of the pressure off
them. The doula's availability actually allows the partner to relax, enjoy, and share in the
emotional experience of the birth to a much greater extent than if the doula wasn't there. Your
doula will also encourage your partner's involvement to support you, according to their own
comfort level.

starts getting intense and you want her there - she will be there.

You have guaranteed back-up of another Your Best Birth doula, who you will have the opportunity
to meet in our childbirth classes or early pregnancy class. In the very rare event that a back-up
is needed, you can be assured that you will be getting a doula who meets the Your Best Birth
standards who will help YOU to have Your Best Birth.

Your doula will give you undivided professional attention throughout your labor. She understands
that every birth is different and that there is no wrong way to give birth. She will help you to be
