A Your Best Birth doula does not replace the woman's partner or other chosen
support persons. Most partners find the presence of a doula to be very helpful
as it takes some of the pressure off them. The doula's availability actually allows
the partner to relax, enjoy, and share in the emotional experience of the birth
to a much greater extent than if the doula wasn't there. Your doula will also
encourage your partner's involvement to support you, according to their own
comfort level.

What kind of comfort measures do you use to to help me during my
labor?

We provide comfort measures such as:

Relaxation
Movement
Breathing Techniques
Positions --including use of birth ball
Hot/Cold therapy
Counterpressure
MusicTouch
Massage
Aromatherapy
Accupressure
Visualization
Encouragement and praise

My husband isn't sure
he wants a doula
there; he is concerned
about someone taking
his place. Should he
be concerned about
that?

We get this question a
lot!
Here is what one former
skeptical dad had to say:

"When my wife first
brought up having a doula
at our birth, I thought that
it would take away from
the intimacy of our
experience. However,
having a Your Best Birth
doula enhanced our
experience of the birth as a
couple, and having our
doula there gave me the
freedom to pay complete
attention to my wife. Our
doula was non-judgmental
and helped us to figure out
what we wanted by giving
us information and
support. Having a doula
was the best thing we
could have done." CG
